Written by current wheelchair tennis athlete, Gillian Mauro, “The Girl in the Wheelchair” is an inspirational and empowering story about transformation amidst personal tragedy.
During what she thought would be a routine doctor’s appointment in 2010, the life of author Gillian Mauro drastically changed forever. The things once taken for granted were no longer that, and taking one ‘simple’ step became a chore. Her days as an athlete and independent young woman quickly vanished and her visions of motherhood and marriage were vastly altered.
Just 2 years post appointment, every ounce of her independence was shattered. Left devastated with a bleak outlook on her future, she was forced to pick up the pieces.
As she recounts both the heart wrenching and heartwarming details of her journey thus far, Gillian proves to us all why being the ‘girl in the wheelchair’ is really ‘not that bad.’
